DİYARBAKIR - During the raids in the early hours of Tuesday morning many woman activists were detained in Diyarbakır, including Free Women's Movement (TJA) Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan.

 

Numerous houses were raided by the police in Diyarbakır in the early hours of the morning. The police searched the houses of a large number of mostly Kurdish woman activists and detained many of them. Mezopotamya Woman Journalists Platform spokesperson and Jinnews editor Ayşe Güney, Free Women's Movement (TJA) spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan, Med Federation of Legal Support and Solidarity with Prisoners’ Families Associations (MED TUHAD-FED) co-chair Elif Haran, Association for Assistance to Prisoners' Families (TUAY-DER) member Rabia Ataş, Bağlar Municipality Assembly member Panayır Çelik, Bağlar Municipality Assembly member Halime Bayram, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Yenişehir former provincial co-chair Demet Özkaran, Zekiye Güler, Figen Ekti, Union of Health and Social Service Workers (SES) Diyarbakır Branch manager Rozerin Çatak, Emine Kaya, Dilan Yakut, Yenişehir Municipality Assembly members Gülşen Güneş and Ronda Bat are those learned to be among the detained.

 

It was reported that the houses of TUAY-DER manager Bahar Akyapı and HDP's provincial co-chair of Sur Hatun Yıldız were also raided, but since they were not home they were not detained.

 

All the women detained have been taken to the Diyarbakır Police Headquarters as the grounds for detentions are yet unknown.
