VAN - The first hearing of imprisoned journalist Aziz Oruç will be held tomorrow in Ağrı 2nd High Criminal Court. Journalists, Oruç's wife and attorney called for solidarity for Oruç.
The first hearing of Aziz Oruç, and Muhammet İkram Müftüoğlu and HDP Doğubeyazıt District Co-Chair Abdullah Ekelek who are accused of helping Aziz Oruç will be held tomorrow at Ağrı 2nd High Criminal Court. Aziz Oruç was taken into custody in the Doğubeyazıt district of Ağru on December 11, 2019. He was arrested later and sent to Patnos Type L Prison.Journalists, Oruç's wife and attorney called for solidarity for Oruç.
'GOVERNMENT TARGETED HIM'
Journalist Adnan Bilen who called for solidarity and support for the hearing tomorrow said: "Aziz Oruç is a journalist and he was arrested because the government pointed him as a target for simply doing his job as a journalist. We are expecting all of our journalist friend in Ağrı to support Oruç in his hearing. We have to show that our friend Aziz, who like many of our journalist friends, have been declared a terrorist, is actually a journalist. We hope that by making a fair trial tomorrow, Aziz will be released and continues to do his job."
JOURNALISM IS NOT A CRIME
Drawing attention to the fact that Oruç has been illegally imprisoned for 7 months, Journalist Oktay Candemir said: "Aziz is being accused of his work as a journalist. He will stand trial tomorrow and we, as his friends and colleagues, will be there standing with him."
Jinnews reporter Şehriban Abi, said: "Our journalist friend who was delivered to İran have been dumped behind the wire fences at Turkey Iran border and survived. Like dozens of our journalist friends, his imprisonment is illegal and unjust. We demand his release for tomorrow's hearing. Journalism is not a crime."
CALL FOR SOLIDARITY
His wife Hülya Oruç, thanking the journalists in solidarity with Aziz, said: "I am hoping for better things, fair things for tomorrow. I invite everyone to support us tomorrow and stand with us."
