ANKARA – Female politician Zeynep Ölbeci, who was detained within the scope of the Kobanê investigation, was arrested by the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court.
An arrest warrant was issued for Zeynep Ölbeci by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Ölbeci was soon detained and attended the hearing held in Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court. Asked about the statements made by the anonymous witness Ulaş, who is in the case file, Ölbeci denied the allegations. Ölbeci stated that she was involved in political activities and requested that she was released pending trial.
'THE ONLY THING IN THE FILE IS THE ANONYMOUS WITNESS STATEMENTS'
Her attorney Kenan Maçoğlu stated that there were only anonymous witness statements about her client and that it could not create a strong suspicion of crime. Maçoğlu stated that there were political pressures on the file and irregularities in the investigation and that they would make detailed statements during the prosecution phase.
Attorney Nurettin Kuzu asked his client to be released pending trials because the evidence against her is circumstantial and that there is nothing in the file except anonymous witness statements and she is not at flight risk.
The prosecution, on the other hand, claimed that the charges against Ölbeci were among the catalog crimes, and that there was a strong suspicion of crime due to anonymous witness statements and demanded her arrest.
DECISION OF ARREST
Announcing their decision following the statements of the attorneys, the court board decided her arrest.
With the arrest of Ölbeci the number of people arrested in Kobané file increased to 28.
