AĞRI - Prisoner Şahin Gegez whose sentence is finished, is not being released due to being sent to solitary confinement for disciplinary punishment. His uncle Remzi Gegez said it was punishment within punishment.
Prisoners have been taken hostage after the "Regulation on Observation and Classification Centers and Assessment of Convicts" put into effect. Prison administrations can sigle handedly hold prisoners in prison after their sentences are finished using disciplinary punishments. Gegez who was sentenced to 12 years of prison sentence back in 2012 for 'being a member of a terrorist organization' has finished his sentence but he is not released from prison. Protesting his nephew being held in prison despite finishing his sentence, his uncle Remzi Gegez said the prisoners are exposed to punishment within punishment.
3 MONTHS SOLITARY CONFINEMENT PENALTY
Stating that his nephew was sent to solitary confinement for 3 months for participating in an action in prison said: "They are trying their best to send the prisoners to solitary confinement. This is a policy. Prisoners are being punished for protesting their wards being raided. The prison administrations are threatening the prisoners saying they will never let them out. This is how they try to stop the protests inside the prison. You can't punish someone with prison while they are in prison for a different accusation."
THEY MUST BE RELEASED
Stating that the situation can be summed as 'punishment within punishment', Gegez said: "There is no such law in this country. These dirty policies must be abandoned based on human rights and health. We want the prisoners who finished their sentences to be released."
