İSTANBUL - Our agency's Managing Editor Ferhat Çelik was acquitted at the first hearing against him on grounds of an article titled 'Bugs are fed to the prisoners in Bayburt'.
The first hearing of the case against Mesopotamia Agency Managing Editor Ferhat Çelik was held at Bayburt Criminal Court of Peace. Çelik attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from the Istanbul Courthouse 22nd Criminal Court of First Instance in Çağlayan.
PROSECUTOR REQUESTED HIS ACQUITTAL
Expressing his opinion, the prosecutor requested Çelik's acquittal, stating that the news article is within the scope of the freedom of expression and press.
Speaking after the prosecutor, Çelik's attorney Sercan Korkmaz said he agreed with the prosecutor and requested his client's acquittal.
FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Çelik said the news article was within the scope of the freedom of expression and demanded his acquittal.
Announcing the verdict, the court board decided Çelik's acquittal.
