ANKARA - Legal organizations made a statement before the trial of the Yazidi child who was kidnapped by ISIS and sold in Turkey and said: “If you really want to fight for something, it must be for children. Enough is enough.”

Legal organizations and human rights organizations made a statement in front of the courthouse before the 7th hearing of the case to be held today regarding the abduction of the Yazidi child by ISIS to Turkey in 2017 and child’s subsequent sale on the dark web.

Lawyer Nurdan Kılıç, who read the statement, stated that they came together for the hearing of the trial of the Yazidi child who was captured by ISIS as a baby and then sold as a slave, which was held behind closed doors and hidden from the public. Kılıç said: “Another child was cut off from life in the State-Family-Sect triangle. Narin was not the first.”

'AT LEAST 14 GIRLS KILLED IN 7 MONTHS'

Sharing data from the report published by the Child Rights Center, Kılıç said that at least 14 girls were killed in the first 7 months of 2024. Kılıç said: “According to the information obtained by the FISA Child Rights Center by scanning only the news in the media, at least 133 children have lost their lives due to domestic violence, child murders or suspicious deaths since 2022. In the first 6 months of 2024, 32 children ended their lives by 'suicide'. 17 children died in suspicious circumstances. In 2023 alone, more than 66 thousand child sexual abuse cases were filed against children. The number of child victims of sexual crimes who can reach law enforcement officials has tripled in 10 years.”

'WILL YOU SAY IT IS A DOMESTIC ISSUE?'

Speaking next, Mustafa Köroğlu, Chair of the Ankara Bar Association, stated the following: “It was Berkin, Uğur, Leyla and now Narin. But they were all children and the last time we saw those children, they were thrown in a sack by a stream. We do everything to draw attention to children's rights, to raise awareness, but where are those who should be fighting this? Now we are facing another murder but there is not even a single statement about the investigation. What are we going to do, will you sat 'it is a domestic issue'? Hasn't the family always been a place where fascism is experienced at the most basic micro level in this country? If you are really going to fight for something on earth, it must be to fight for the love of children in that clear sky. That is why we say enough is enough.”

After the statement, the lawyers of the case went to the hearing room of Ankara 15th High Criminal Court, where the case was closed.
