RIHA - A disabled citizen who came in front of Xelfetî Municipality where the resistance continues said: “The municipality is ours. We voted for DEM Party. The trustee is oppression and we do not accept this.”
The vigil against the appointment of a trustee to the municipality in Xelfetî (Halfeti) district of Riha (Urfa) continues on its third day. The crowd started to gather in front of the blockaded municipality building in the early hours of the morning. The crowd includes Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs Dilan Kunt Ayan, Ayten Kordu, Ferit Şenyaşar, Mithat Sancar, Ömer Öcalan, Zülküf Uçar, Xelfetî co-mayors Saniye Bayram and Mehmet Karayılan, members of the Riha Peace Mothers Assembly and many others.
During the vigil, where songs and slogans of resistance are being raised, citizens are protesting against being prevented from entering the municipality building. The disabled woman's participation in the protest in front of the municipality was applauded by the crowd for a long time.
'WE DO NOT ACCEPT'
The disabled citizen says the co-mayors, “We are Kurds, we cannot deny our origin. I am Kurdish and I live in Kurdish. This is oppression. The municipality is ours. We voted for DEM Party. The trustee is oppression and we do not accept this.”
Afterwards, the delegation, including MPs, visited market vendors near the municipality building and invited people to the ongoing resistance in front of the municipality building.
While the crowd continues to wait in front of the municipality building, a delegation including DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tulay Hatimoğulları, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Speaker Meral Danış Beştaş, Human Rights Association (IHD) Co-Chair İbrahim Küçükbalaban, Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chair Erkan Baş are expected to visit the resistance during the day.
