RIHA - Manbij, where Turkey and paramilitary groups have increased their attacks, has a strategic importance with its proximity to Kobanê, the city of resistance that cuts the "windpipe" of ISIS

Turkey and the paramilitary forces it supports continue their attacks on Manbij Canton of North and East Syria. The Manbij Military Council, Bab Military Council and Jabhet al-akrad Forces are defending the city they liberated from ISIS in 2016 against the attacks intensively using warplanes, UCAVs and drones provided by Turkey.

GATEWAY TO WATER AND ENERGY RESOURCES

The strategic location of the city, which has not been free from Turkey's invasion threats since its liberation from ISIS, whets the appetite of those who want to  strangel the peoples's revolution that is developing and growing day by day in North and East Syria. Located 15 kilometres wes of the Euphrates River, the city borders the cities of Jarabulus, Bab and Ezaz, which are controlled by Turkey and the paramilitary forces under its control. Another reason for the city's strategic location is that it is only 55 kilometres away from Kobanê, which has written its name in golden letters in the history of resistance against ISIS. There is the Qereqozaq bridge connecting the two cities, which are known for their resistance, on the Euphrates River. This point was bombed by Turkish planes during the attacks that started yesterday. Another importance of the city is that it is the gateway to the control of Sirîn and Teşrîn Dams, the water resources of the region.

ISIS' WINDPIPE CUT OFF

Arabs, Kurds, Turkmens and Circassians live together in the city, which is 30 kilometres from the Turkish border, and is a prototype for a democratic nation. As a matter of fact, Faisal Abu Leyla, who gave his name to the operation that started on 2 June 2016 and liberated on 12 August after 62 days, etched his name in history. 12 days after the liberation of Manbij from ISIS, Turkey launched "Operation Euphrates Shield" on 24 august and took control of Jarabulus, Bab and Ezaz, which were liberated from ISIS. In the attacks on administration of the city were targeted. After Kobanê, the liberation of Manbij cut the "windpipe" of ISIS.

The operation of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which started with Aleppo and continued with the fall of Damascus, turned the direction of Turkey and the SNA groups guided by it back to Manbij. The SNA attacked with ISIS sleeper cells inside the city, but the defence forces of the city gave and are giving an unrelenting resistance.

MANBIJ DID NOT FALL

Even though the special war media has been downgrading the city since the first minute of the attacks, the information from the field is that the SNA has suffered heavy losses despite the Turkish air support and that the city is under the control of the Autonomous Administration.
