AMED - In Diyarbakır Type T Prison No 1, 65-year-old judicial prisoner R.K. was beaten by wardens. The family recorded the traces of the beating during a video call.
R.K., 65, a prisoner in Diyarbakır Type T Prison No 1 for a judicial case, was beaten by wardens on 7 January. R.K., who was beaten, made a video call to his family and showed the beating marks. R.K.'s family took screenshots of the beating marks and applied to the Presidential Communication Centre (CİMER). R.K.'s family travelled from Mersin to meet with the prison authorities. The family lawyer also filed a complaint against the guards after meeting with his client R.K.
The family lawyer, who came to the prison after the beating incident, stated the following about his meeting with his client, "There were beating marks on many parts of his body. He said that he was first beaten in the part where the cameras were, then 10-15 wardens took him out of the angle where the cameras were and beat him, and that the prison prosecutor took him out of the hands of the wardens. We have applied for the necessary investigations on the subject."
Rıdvan Kazan and Elif Kazan, R.K.'s nephews, emphasised the need for an effective investigation into R.K.'s experiences and stressed that the prison administration is responsible in case something happens to R.K.
