ANKARA - Cengiz Dündar, co-mayor of Peyas district, has been released from prison.
Cengiz Dündar, Co-Mayor of Peyas (Kayapınar) district of Amed (Diyarbakır), who was arrested on 30 November 2024 through an Ankara based investigation and held in Sincan High Security Prison, was released. Dündar was released after his lawyers objected to his detention.
9 people, including Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) Deputy Co-Chair Sevtap Akdağ and Kayapınar Co-Mayor Cengiz Dündar, were arrested on 30 November 2024 and sent to prison.
Dündar is expected to be released from prison in the coming hours.
