The 7th Ma Music Days are starting in Amed (Diyarbakır). The events organised by Ma Music Academy will start on 12 June and continue until 15 June. This year the events will be organised in memory of artist Nesrîn Şêrwan.

 

Evin Tiryaki, one of the Ma Music trainers, pointed out that they attribute the events to a different artist every year. Evin Tiryaki said, "The voices and names of some Kurdish artists have been lost in this system. In order to make these voices and names visible, we attribute the events to a different name every year."

 

Stating that for 8 years they have been working to prevent the assimilation imposed on Kurdish children, Evin Tiryaki said, "Today we only have branches in Amed. We aim to complete our institutionalisation in other cities and reach more children."

 

"Families are very happy when they bring their children. Because the students who come here receive music education in their own language. Some students do not know a word of Kurdish when they first arrive. After 1-2 years of staying with us, they learn and speak Kurdish," she said.

 

CHILDREN WILL PERFORM

 

Referring to the importance of the events they organised: "There is a very dirty assimilation policy in Amed. This has a great effect especially on children. Children cannot speak in their mother tongue. Families should bring their children to the academy against this," Evin Tiryaki said. and stated that children will perform in all of the activities that will continue for 4 days and called on the city residents to "Participate in Ma Music Days with your children".
