ANTALYA – Three prisoners on a hunger strike at Antalya Döşemealtı High Security Prison were taken to Antalya City Hospital as their condition worsened, while the Humna Rights Association (IHD) called for the prisoners’ demands be met.
Prisoners on a hunger strike at Antalya Döşemealtı High Security Prison, Tahsin Sağaltıcı, Gürkan Türkoğlu, and Hüseyin Özen, were taken to the hospital due to the worsening of their condition. It was stated that Tahsin Sağaltıcı and Gürkan Türkoğlu have been on hunger strike for 260 days, and Hüseyin Özen for 240 days.
It was noted that the prisoners were referred to Antalya City Hospital while their families continued to wait in front of the hospital. The case lawyers met with the prison prosecutor.
Officials from the Antalya Branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD) stated that the prisoners are continuing the hunger strike in order to complete their sentences under human conditions and in prisons close to their families.
The IHD noted that these demands are guaranteed under international human rights law and court decisions, stating that instead of meeting these demands, the Ministry of Justice and relevant institutions sent the prisoners to the hospital against their will and pressured them to end their hunger strike.
The IHD also stated that prisoners who had previously been taken to the hospital twice were sent back to prison when they refused to end their action.
It was said that it was decided that three prisoners, whose condition had worsened, would be "kept under supervision in the hospital."
The association called for the abandonment of the threat of forced intervention and the immediate implementation of solution-oriented steps regarding the demands of the prisoners.
