ANKARA- Lawyer Kerem Altıparmak who spoke on the continuing hunger strikes and isolation, said isolation is against every standart of the law.

 

 

The hunger strike initiated by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and People's Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari Deputy Leyla Güven to protest the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues on its 114nd day. Güven is continuing the hunger strike she started in prison from her home since her release on January 25.331 prisoners in about 100 prisons are on the 76th day of their hunger strike. The hunger strike of Nasır Yağız from Federal Kurdistan District, Hewlér HDP  representative is on its 101th day, while the hunger strikes of the Kurdish politicians and journalists in Strasburg and İmam Şiş from Galler is on its 75th day, and Yusuf İba in Toronto is on the 48th day of his hunger strike. Hunger strikes are still spreading.

 

HUman's rights defender and lawyer Kerem Altıparmak spoke about the hunger strikes and the isolation. Altıparmak said:"A person being isolated his whole life is against all standarts of the law and there must be negotiation about this anyway."

 

Altıparmak said: "All prisoners deserve an equal treatment. The standards of this are both in ethical and international law. Under the circumstances in which a person can be kept in a conviction and the related restrictions are imposed, it is clear to the law what this restriction might be due to

 

Altıparmak who evaluated the hunger strikes, said: "As a pro-life person who do not support this kind of action, I must say, I think people have an absolute right over their own bodies and we do have to respect their way of expressing themselves with their bodies. Therefore, every individual has a right to be heard. Every individual has an absolute right over their bodies. People should not be brought to this points."

 

Altıparmak who made an evaluation about the silence of the government about the hunger strikes: "The government is more interested in the results of the election than a persons life or a deputy's political right of representation.For human rights perspective this is not something that can be considered positive. I'd rather they told that they evaluated it and decided to oppose it then for them to be silent."
