The hunger strike Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven started in Diyarbakır Type E Closed Prison on November 8, with the demand of the termination of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan have left behind 129 days. 

 

Değer who stated that people have a say on their own bodies, said: "Some people lay their bodies to hunger and perform such an action for their demands to  be heard. The priority of us doctors is always the preservation of life. The demands of Leyla Güven and the other hunger strikers are legitimate and conscientious.Forcing prisoners into solitary confinement is a violation of human's rights.Therefore  we know that the demands of the prisoners in this direction is legitimate and rightful.

 

'WE HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS'

 

 

Van Hakkari Medical Chamber Board of Directors member Hüseyin Yaviç said as a chamber they are prioritizing human life from the day yhe hunger strike began. Yaviç said: "We made our attempts at all institutions. Our main aim here is to make the health checks of the prisoners who are on hunger strikes regularly in order not to cause any permanent health problems. We have very serious concerns about how the controls of the hunger strike prisonersare done. And makae sure that the salt, sugar and carbonate vitamins B1 and B2, which are vitally important, are being  taken at regular intervals."

 

Yaviç who stated that Leyla Güven have exceeded the critical threshold, said: "We can come across a grave outcome that we don't expect at all. This will be a black mark on the history of our country. In order to avoid such a scene, we call for our request to be taken into account by the competent authorities. In this sense, we invite all institutions to take responsibility."
