BATMAN - The Initiative to keep Hasankeyf Alive has issued a statement saying that Hasankeyf and Tigris Valley are "approaching doomsday".

The Initiative to keep Hasankeyf Alive has issued a statement saying that Hasankeyf and Tigris Valley are "living apocalyptic days".

The statement said: "The first human traces were seen 300,000 years ago, the first settlement dates as far as 12,000 years ago, and the ancient city, which is an open-air museum and home to at least 24 civilizations, has 289 mounds and 199 settlements partially excavated. Furthermore the Tigris Vallye houses at least 100 endemic species many in danger of extinction. The Ilisu Dam will wipe all of this out."

The statement confirmed that "in November 2019, the market began to be demolished with dozers and ladles and demolition is still going on."

The statement ended with a new call to the world to save Hasankeyf.
