The regional rally organized by the Free Women's Movement (TJA) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Women's Assembly in Silopi district of Şırnak within the scope of March 8, International Women's Day. The rally ground in Newroz Park with the slogan "We organize resistance, we walk to freedom" was decorated with purple and white balloons and purple flags. Giant banners reading “Em berxwedanê bi rexîstin sew, ber bi azadiyê and dimeşin” and “8'ê Adarê pîroz be” were hung on the stage in the area.

 

WOMEN ARE FLOWING TO THE STREETS

 

Hundreds of women from many districts including Şırnak center, İdil, Silopi and Cizre, started to flow to the rally area in the morning. Women who flowed into the rally area with local clothes specific to the Botan region were subject to the General Information Screening (GBT) at the police checkpoint in the city entrance. With intense police measures, women are taken to the marching area from a single entrance. The women who enter the area "halay" dances chanting their songs and slogans.

 

LEYLA GÜVEN ENTHUSIASM

 

The enthusiasm of women who often let the area go with slogans such as "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" and "Child abuse will not be forgiven", attracts attention. Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven, who declared a hunger strike resistance within the last year, will adress to the women in the demonstration.
