İSTANBUL - Police intervened to the Grup Yorum fans who gathered in Gazi District for İbrahim Gökçek's funeral. 4 people were detained.
The ceremony to be held in Gazi Cemevi is prevented by the police before the body of İbrahim Gökçek is taken to Kayseri for burial. The police, who blockade the neighborhood from the early hours of the morning, did not allow anyone in the Cemevi except for those who kept watch at the Cemevi through the night and his family.
POLICE INTERVENTION WITH TEAR GAS
Grup Yorum fans who tried to go the Cemevi were subjected to police violence. The group who were tear gassed by the police, protested the police with slogans. Four people were taken into custody during the police intervention.
A delegation including the People's Democratic Party (HDP) MP Hüda Kaya and musician Pınar Aydınlar negotiated with the police. The delegation told the police to allow the people in the Cemevi and that the funeral will go to Kayseri once the ceremony is over.
The police chief said that the ceremony was held yesterday, and entry would not be allowed on the grounds of maintaining physical distance under coronavirus measures.
While the talks are inconclusive, the citizens continue their protests, singing songs of Grup Yorum both in the Cemevi and on the streets in Gazi Neighborhood.
