ANKARA - Releasing a message shortly after the ECtHR verdict of right violation and immediate release for arrested businessperson and rights defender Osman Kavala became final, “Free Osman Kavala” coordination has made a call for his immediate release.
After the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) rejected the government of Turkey's objection against its ruling on arrested businessperson and rights defender Osman Kavala yesterday (May 12), "Free Osman Kavala" coordination has release a written statement.
Noting that with the rejection of Turkey's objection, the ruling of right violation and immediate release is now final, the Coordination has said,
"On 10 December 2019, European Court of Human Rights announced its judgement regarding Osman Kavala's detention, concluding that the articles 5.1, 5.4 and 18 of the European Convention on Human Rights have been violated and ordered Osman Kavala to be released immediately.
"On 9 March 2020, the Government of Turkey requested the referral of the case to the Grand Chamber. Today, ECtHR rejected the request for referral upon evaluation. Hereby, the ECtHR judgement in the case is now final. In accordance with the finalized judgement, we are looking forward to Osman Kavala's immediate release."
