MANİSA - Soma case attorney Sercan Aran, stated that appointing Fuat Ali Aydın as the expert in another workplace homicide case while he is on trial in Soma case, shows that this is not a fair trial.
Fuat Ali Aydın, who is responsible for the mining massacre in which 301 workers died in Soma, was appointed as an expert on another mining homicide case. Şükrü Otlak, Servet Çapacıoğlu and Engin Tutuk lost their lives in the mining accident in Milas on February 18, 2019. The operators of the mine, who were arrested by the court, Mustafa Ali K. and his son Özkan K. and engineer Serkan A. were released by the Bodrum High Criminal Court on August 29, 2019. The court wrote to Istanbul Technical University for the appointment of an expert on the incident, but received a negative response. The Bodrum High Criminal Court decided to appoint 7 people as experts, including Fuat Ünal Aydın, who is on trial in the Soma mine massacre case and was sentenced to 8 years and 4 months in prison.
Sercan Aran, one of the lawyers of the case opened after the Soma mining massacre, evaluated the expert decision of the Bodrum High Criminal Court. Aran stating that the defendant who is sentenced to 8 years 4 months of prison sentence in another mining disaster was appointed as an expert, said: "What technical information will they get from a person who did not fulfil his responsibilities as an engineer and caused 301 people to lose their lives?"
Stating that Aydın as a ventilation engineer did nothing about workers working in polluted air, said: "This person caused the death of the workers by failing to fulfill his responsibilities about the equipment and letting the workers work in a polluted environment. This person can only acquit the bosses. Just like he accused the workers died in Soma and acquitted the bosses. This is also a concrete indication that our justice mechanism is a partner in crime in this case, let alone serving justice for the workers."
