RIHA - Ferhan Hec İsa, President of the Euphrates Council of the Syrian Future Party, who took part in the historical Kobanê resistance that lasted 134 days and was the beginning of the end for ISIS, said: "Leader Apo's mobilization call liberated Kobanê."
ISIS, formed by Al Qaeda, which captured many cities, especially Raqqa, after the civil war in Syria that started in 2011, turned its direction to the city of Kobanê in Northern and Eastern Syria, under the control of the Kurds, on September 15, 2014. ISIS attacked the city from three arms, but here it encountered historical resistance from Yekineyên Parastina Gel (YPG) and Yekineyên Parastina Jin (YPJ) fighters. The resistance given with individual weapons in the villages spread to the city center in a short time. The resistance, which grew house by house, street by street and neighborhood by neighborhood under the leadership of YPG-YPJ, had a great impact not only in Kurdish geography but also all over the world. While the resistance, in which everyone from 7 to 70 took part, ended in victory, this was also the beginning of the end for ISIS, which committed major crimes against humanity. The Kobanê resistance was engraved in memories as the bastion of resistance.
Ferhan Hec İsa, Chairperson of the Euphrates Council of the Syrian Future Party, who was the President of the Kobanê Canton People's High Court at the time and took part in the resistance in Kobanê, which was liberated under the leadership of YPJ and YPG fighters, evaluated the 134-day resistance in Kobanê and Turkey's ongoing attacks.
'THE HOPE OF THE PEOPLE WERE TARGETED'
Stating that before the attacks launched by ISIS from three branches, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Cebhet Al Nusra and ISIS carried out attacks against Afrin, Kobanê and Cizir cantons, but they were not successful, İsa said: “They were attacking on many fronts. However, they still suffered defeat. Gangs, gaining strength from many states in the region, attempted to blockade our beautiful city Kobanê many times because the target was the people's will to live together freely. Kobanê was a hope for the problems in the whole region. This hope was targeted by gangs. When the blockade attempts failed, ISIS, a dark force, was equipped with heavy weapons and put into action. Major cities such as Mosul changed hands in a few hours. ISIS was a project and Kobanê had to be occupied in order for this project to achieve its final goal; however, the people of Kobanê, women, youth and internationalists from four parts of Kurdistan resisted and did not allow this."
'KURDS BAND TOGETHER'
Stating that the fighters in Kobanê did not fall into pessimism for 134 days, İsa drew attention that those who resisted received strength from those who were on guard duty in Pirsûs (Suruç), the opposite side of the border. Underlining that the resistance in Kurdistan boosted the motivation of those resisting in Kobanê, İsa said: "PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan sent a message on September 22, 2014: 'The fall of Kobanê means the fall of the whole Kurdistan.' After the call he made with the message 'Everyone should act according to this reality', the Kurds from four parts of Kurdistan turned towards Kobane. After the call, the Kurds band together to embrace Kurdishness and Kurdistan in the name of Kobanê. Leader Apo's call revived hope in Kobanê. Hundreds of young people crossed the border and came to Kobane after the call."
'BORDERS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED'
Stating that the young people who turned to Kobanê upon the call of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan were the strongest response to AKP President Tayyip Erdoğan's words about Kobanê in Dîlok on October 7, 2014, "Kobane has fallen, it will fall", İsa said the following: : “The young people who came to Kobanê gave the message 'Kobanê will not fall' in the clearest way. This will never be forgotten. Hundreds of young people abolished the borders, borders were rendered meaningless. Young people from 4 parts of Kurdistan resisted and became martyrs in the streets of Kobanê. YPJ has no analogues in the world. In many places, women took part in wars, but never with their own units. Women marched on the tanks chanting. The shouts are still ringing in our ears, they will never be forgotten. One of the things I will never forget until I die is that a female friend was injured in her foot. We had no means to stop the blood. Our friends died from blood loss in our hands because they were held waiting at the border gate for a long time."
'TURKIYE IS TAKING REVENGE ON ISIS'
Stating that ISIS did not achieve its goal in Kobanê and that Turkey aims to take revenge on ISIS with its attacks on the region, İsa said: “There are many documents regarding the relations between Turkey and ISIS. They don't deny it anymore anyway. They attacked together, they still act together. The new life being knitted together in Northern and Eastern Syria is a threat to the nation states in the region. They see Democratic Nation as a threat to themselves. They tried everything but did not achieve their goal. Now they are thinking of getting results by provoking the Arab people in the region. The events that took place recently in Deir ez-Zor, Manbij, Eyn İsa, Girê Spî, Til Temir and Zirgan were planned within this framework; however, the people of the region did not fall for this trick and sided with the SDF. They used gangs under the name of tribe. But no matter what is done, we will resist with the spirit of the Kobanê resistance. No blockade or oppression can stop us from establishing a new life. We will be the winners, the people will be the winners. We will live together in these lands with the Democratic Nation paradigm."
