ISTANBUL - Gerçek Gündem editor Furkan Karabay was detained at the police station where he went to receive the notification about him.
Gerçek Gündem editor Furkan Karabay was detained at the police station where he went to receive the notification about him. Karabay, who was taken into custody, was taken to the Istanbul Police Department in Fatih. Karabay's lawyer, Enes Ermaner, whose reason for detention was not known, said in his post on his social media account: "Since when have detained people not been allowed to meet with their lawyers? I hope this practice does not result in ill-treatment."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Karabay was detained on December 7, when Justice Commission Chairperson Bekir Altun Un, who came to the public agenda with the letter sent by Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor İsmail Uçar to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), filed a criminal complaint for "slander" and "insult". Karabay, whose testimony at Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse was completed, was released under judicial control.
