Professional organisations react to detentions: We will not step back 2024-11-27 14:45:12 AMED - Professional organisations protested the detention of journalists and writers in Amed. A statement was made in front of Dicle Fırat Journalists' Association (DFG) in Amed (Diyabakır) in relation to the detention of journalists in house raids conducted within the scope of an Eskişehir based investigation. DFG, Mezopotamya Women Journalists Association (MKG), DİSK Basın-İş and Turkish Journalists' Union (TGS) Amed Representative office in front of the statement was attended by many journalists and writers. "Free Press cannot be silenced" banner was unfurled during the statement.   'WE ARE NOT AFRAID'   DİSK Basın-İş Representative Hakkı Boltan said: "Our colleagues must be released immediately. Thisis an attempt to intimidate journalists. The news our friends are reporting is being treated like crime. We never accept this."   JINNEWS reporter Dilan Babat stated that journalists are being charged for their news and said: "Free Press is constantly being accused for the news they report. The news our journalist friends report is not a crime. Those who threaten us in patliamentary chambers and on television should know that we are not afraid, we take our strength from truth. We demant the immediate release of our journalist friends. Journalism is not a crime, long live Free Press."   TGS Amed Representative Mahmut Oral reacted as follows: "Take your hands off journalists, enough is enough".   DFG Co-chair Dicle Müftüoğlu said: "Free Press labourers do not step back from writing the truth for a moment, they continue to write the truth. We continue this struggle by reporting the news of each of our arrested and detained friends. We have not taken a step back until today and we will not do so in the future. We demant the release of our friends in custody."   The statement ended with the slogan "Free Press cannot be silenced".
