Solutions to war, climate crisis and migration: Ecological-communal society 2024-11-28 09:31:06 İZMİR - Stating that millions of people are migrating due to wars, conflicts and climate crisis in the world, Ecologist Ertuğrul Barka emphasised that the solution against these is in ecological-communal society. Global warming caused by ecocide brings new natural disasters every day. Disasters such as droughts, floods, storms and fires are occurring more frequently in nature, which capitalism approaches with the greed for profit. Millions of people are forced to migrate from their places and homelands due ecocide.   MILLIONS MIGRATED   According to the data of the United Nations (UN), while 100 million people had to leave their place of residence for different reasons in 2022, this number was recorded as 281 million people in 2023.   According to the 2024 World Migration Report published by the UN International Organisation for Migration (IOM), millions of people migrated for different reasons. In the report, which draws attention to the fact that African migrants have doubled since 1990, approximately 2.4 million people in Nigeria, 1.2 million in Somalia, 873 thousand in Ethiopia and 596 thousand in South Sudan were displaced due to disasters. The report also stated that water scarcity, high temperatures and forest fires in North Africa caused migrations in countries such as Libya, Algeria and Morocco, while in South African countries, migrations were experienced in Madagascar, Malawi and Mozambique due to tropical cyclones.   Commenting on the migration of millions of people due to ecocide and wars, ecologist Ertuğrul Barka stated that global warming deepens the climate crisis.   'LIVING SPACES ARE BEING DESTROYED'   The crisis will deepen with energy production based on fossil fuels and that migration will increase with this said Barka and added: "There are those who migrate for political reasons, but there are also many people coming to the country due to global climate change. People cannot do agriculture. Living spaces are being destroyed. Capitalism capitalises 'natural resources' for itself. Therefore, living creatures in nature are deprived of these living spaces."   SOLUTION ECOLOGICAL COMMUNAL SOCIETY   Barka said that those who are engaged in agriculture are the most affected by the climate crisis. Stating that people living in these countries migrate to Europe as capitalist states exploit the underground resources of many countries such as African countries, Barka continued as follows: "They are trying to go to Europe due to wars, climate crisis and global warming. Many of these people drown in the seas. This exploitation cannot continue in this way. Not only those regions are affected by the exploitation. The whole world is also affected. The solution is ecological-communal society. If life is to continue, it will be through ecological-communal society. The greatest ecological destruction is caused by wars. For this, we must consider ecological values and communal life order."
