İSTANBUL - Cemile Karakaş stated that she was subjected to a strip search and fainted while she went to visit her son, who is being held in Silivri Prison No. 3.
Cemile Karakaş, who went to visit her son in Silivri No. 3 Type L Prison, which is known with violations of rights of the prisoners, was subjected to a strip search. Speaking about what happened, mother Karakaş stated that she was subjected to strip search and fainted when she went to visit her son Hamgin Karakaş on October 28.
SHE WAS PREVENTED FROM VISITING HER SON
Explaining that she had a nervous breakdown when she was subjected to strip search, mother Karakaş said, “I didn't say anything at first so that they wouldn't file a report to punish my son for it, but I couldn't take it and I fainted. The families of the prisoners, who were with me when I fainted, tried to help me. I gathered my strength and stood up so that my son wouldn't see me like that. Afterwards, dozens of guards dragged me and other families outside."
VIOLATIONS IN PRISONS
Karakaş, who said that there is an intense pressure on the prisoners in Silivri No 3 Prison for the last 3 months, expressed that they are worried about the life of their children. Karakaş said, “We do not know whether our children are alive or not. I haven't been able to see my son since October 28. The last time I spoke, he said to me, 'Mom, strip search is imposed on us. We are asked to take off our shoes and shake them. They want us to act like soldiers during counts. They want us to make a formal salute to the guards when we make our weekly phonecalls. We are not allowed to speak in Kurdish on the phone or during visits. Imagine a state putting so much pressure on the people outside can do to a person in a prison."
'HELP US BE HEARD'
Calling out, "Let the whole world hear our voices," Karakaş said: "Take your hands off our children. Let this oppression end. Let the isolation on Öcalan (PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan) and the prisoners be lifted. All the families of the prisoners should unite and fight for this."
