IĞDIR - Ferzende Elbi, Abdullah Ateş, Ehettin Kaynar and Kerim Boran, who are over 70 years old and sentenced to life imprisonment for reconciling families in Iğdır, are struggling with serious health problems.
The lawsuit filed against 13 people, including Ferzende Elbi (72), Abdullah Ateş (70), Ehettin Kaynar (72) and Kerim Boran (77), who reconciled enemy families in Iğdır, on the allegation that they took part in the "Justice Commission", was concluded in April. In the case where 4 people were acquitted, 9 people were sentenced to hundreds of years in prison. Elbi, Ateş, Kaynar and Boran, who were sentenced to life imprisonment for "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "destroying the unity of the state and the integrity of the country", were arrested at the hearing in April despite their serious illnesses. While the decision of the Ağdır High Criminal Court was stalled at the Court of Appeal, where it was taken upon appeal, 4 prisoners over the age of 70 were almost left to die in prisons.
THEY ALL HAVE SERIOUS ILLNESSES
It has been stated that Abdullah Ateş, who is imprisoned in Iğdır Type S Closed Prison, is getting worse and cannot maintain his life under prison conditions. The applications of Ateş, who has vision loss, cartilage loss in the knee joint, chronic muscle disease, kidney cyst, intestinal syndrome, advanced prostate and spinal sprain diseases, did not give any results. Ehettin Kaynar, who was imprisoned in Edirne F Type High Security Closed Prison, suffers from diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension and chronic heart disease, as well as hearing loss. It was stated that while Kerim Boran, who is also in the same prison, had heart disease, hearing loss, diabetes and many other illnesses, Ferzende Elbi was constantly hospitalized in Edirne due to his health problems.
THEY WERE PUNISHED FOR MAKING PEACE BETWEEN FAMILIES
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Iğdır Deputy Habip Eksik stated that the arrested people only work for peace in the society and emphasized that they were sentenced to heavy penalties just because they embraced the HDP. Eksik said, “It is unlawful to impose such extreme sentences and arrest these people on the basis of abstract allegations. All public institutions and local officials knew very well what these people were doing. Despite all this, they were punished by the judiciary. These people are left to die in prison because they made peace betweet families."
ENEMY LAW
Reminding that the arrested people are people over the age of 70, Eksik said that each of them also has serious chronic diseases and they are unable to maintain their lives in prisons. Pointing out that the families are waiting with great concern, Eksik said, “The AKP government, which uses the pandemic conditions as an excuse, is torturing the prisoners. After the sick detainees are transferred to the hospital, they are kept in quarantine in very harsh conditions. It is a big problem for a person to be left alone in a quarantine ward when he cannot meet his basic needs. Although the prison sentences given to these people have not been finalized by the Supreme Court, arresting them can not be explained by anything other that applying enemy law. And like these are not enough they were sent to the prisons in very far cities for preventing their families from visiting. We will continue our efforts in this regard before the Ministry of Justice."
