İSTANBUL - Asrın Law Office applied to the Constitutional Court for an injunction for their clients Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who have been held in İmralı Prison and have not been heard from for 9 months.
Asrın Law Office has applied to the Constitutional Court (AYM) for their clients, PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and prisoners Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who have been kept under severe isolation conditions in İmralı High Security Type F Prison and who have not been heard from for 9 months.
In their application requesting an injunction on December 24, the lawyers referred to the phone call that took place on March 25, the last contact with Öcalan, and said, "Despite the nine months that have passed since this date, it has not been possible to obtain information about the situation of the clients. During this period, it was not allowed to contact the clients physically, or by phone or letter. For this reason, an application was made to the Court of Execution. The Execution Judge stated that there was a disciplinary punishment that bans family visits, and that there was a 6-month restriction of lawyer visits. This unlawful decision was appealed and a copy of these files was requested, but these requests were also rejected due to security reasons.
DEMANDS
In the continuation of the application, the lawyers listed their demands as follows: “The lives of the applicants, who have not been heard from since March 25, 2021, are at potential risk. In addition to their advanced age and health status, the absolute isolation they have been exposed to for a long time threatens their mental and physical integrity. The absence of control mechanisms and effective remedies increases the risk situation. We request an injunction decision in accordance with Rule 73, so that the damage caused by the violation of the article 17 of the Constitution (prohibition of torture) is brought to an end so that clients can meet with their family and lawyers.”
