TEKIRDAG - Prisoner Bakır Oztürk, who spoke about his protest demanding "Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan" in his last phone call with his family, asked all segments of society to give them a voice.
Within the scope of the "Freedom for Abdullah Ocalan and political solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign, political prisoners started a rotating hunger strike on November 27, 2023. As of April 4, the prisoners took their action to a new stage. At this stage, the prisoners decided to boycott the courts, phone calls and family meetings.
Bakır Oztürk, who is held in Tekirdağ No. 2 Type F High Security Prison, stated in his last phone call with his family that his action will continue as long as the isolation is not abolished. Prisoner Oztürk, who called on all patriotic youth in his phone call with his family, stated the following: “Me and my friends will not have phone calls or family meetings until the isolation on the Leader is abolished. You have a duty outside, make our voice heard by everyone. Make our voices heard everywhere, such as social media, the Presidential Communication Center (CIMER) and the Ministry of Justice. Our call is to all peoples and all patriotic youth. Our people need to support our Leader and end the isolation as soon as possible.”
'WE DID NOT BOW DOWN, WE WILL NOT BOW'
Oztürk's brother Ibrahim Oztürk emphasized that everyone with conscience should not remain silent in the face of this situation and called for sensitivity. Oztürk said: “As the Kurds, we have been an oppressed people for years. But we have never bowed down to this situation and we will not bow down, I would like to specifically point this out. Conditions in prisons are difficult. Even the last time we went to see each other as family visitors, we were subjected to inhumane searches."
CALL FOR SENSITIVITY
Reminding that the action of his brother and other prisoners continue, Oztürk said: "I appeal to people with conscience, especially young people and all segments of society must now be the voice of our friends in prisons."
