NEWS CENTER - Relatives of prisoners in Wan, Adana and Mersin demanded that the absolute isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan be abolished with the "End the isolation" protests.
The "End the isolation" protests initiated by the relatives of the prisoners to end the isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and ensure his physical freedom and to solve the Kurdish issue continue. During the protests held in Wan, Adana and Mersin, the masses who wanted to march to the AKP provincial buildings were not allowed, citing governorship bans. In their protests, relatives of prisoners demanded an end to the isolation.
WAN
In Wan, relatives of prisoners came together in front of the Rêya Armûþê (Ýpekyolu) District Organization building of the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party). Activists who wanted to march to the AKP district building were not allowed, citing the governor's 4-day "protest and activity ban" decision. When the march was not allowed, a statement was made at the protest. In the statement, slogans such as "Bê Serok jiyan nabe (Without Leader there is no life)", "Kurdistan will be a grave for fascism" and "Political prisoners are our honor" were frequently chanted.
Making a statement at the protest, Wan TUHAY-DER Co-Chair Çetin Uyar said: "Mr. Öcalan has been in isolation for 25 years. Thousands of our prisoner friends are on strike to end this isolation. There is a heavy isolation in Kurdistan. We call on the AKP: End this isolation and let Mr. Öcalan meet with his family and lawyers."
DEM Party Provincial Deputy Chair Yakup Almaç condemned the sentences given to Kurdish politicians in the Kobanê Case and said: "The decision taken by the court has once again shown that they are on the side of ISIS and fascism."
ADANA
The statement made in front of the AKP building in Adana was not allowed. People's Democratic Congress (HDK), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), DEM Party, Akdeniz Adana TUHAY-DER, Akdeniz Assistance and Solidarity Association with Families Who Lost Their Relatives (AYKAY-DER) executives also participated in the action. The police took intense security measures around AKP building. The police stopped the relatives of the prisoners, approximately 100 meters away from the AKP building, and cited the governor's 4-day ban on protests and activity.
DEM Party Provincial Co-Chair Seyfettin Aydemir stated that the solution to the problems will be achieved by ending the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Aydemir stated that peace will only be possible by ending the Imrali isolation.
The crowd held a sit-in protest for a while.
MERSIN
In Mersin, Çukurova TUAY-DER, DEM Party and relatives of prisoners were not allowed to walk to the AKP building, citing the 4-day ban decision. The crowd chanted "Biji berxwedana zindana (Long live resistance of dungeons)" slogans and protested the situation with applause and chants.
Reacting to the police's attempt to prevent it, DEM Party Deputy Perihan Koca said that the ban was a political instruction. Calling on the police to comply with the law, not political instructions, Koca said: "The Governorship is committing a crime. We hereby express once again that the governor's crime is obstruction of rights and law, and that it is hostility to the people. Until peace is achieved in this country, until isolation policies are stopped, until torture in prisons is stopped, until a life based on equal citizenship is possible, we will continue to be in the streets and areas under the leadership of our Peace Mothers."
After the statement, the action ended with applause and chants.
