ISTANBUL - Police attacked Farplas workers, who started a protest by stopping production against usurpation of their union rights and dismissals from work. 200 workers were detained during the police intervention. The rest of the workers continue to wait in front of the factory.
Workers at the Farplas Automotive Factory located in Kocaeli Gebze Automotive Supply Industry Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (TOSB) started a strike action the previous week against low wages and for their union rights. The employers, who later said that they would consider the demands of the workers who were members of Birlesik Metal-Is, dismissed many of the workers.
The workers started a strike last night, protesting the dismissal of their friends. While the workers started a work stoppage action and stopped production, the dismissed workers started a sit-in in front of the factory. The workers who stopped working locked themselves inside the factory while those who are dismissed protested the employees in front of the factory.
200 DETAINED
Police intervened the workers in front of the factory and detained around 200 workers including union represantatives. The workers who protested the detentions climbed up the roof of the factory. Workers continue their sit-in on the roof.
