İSTANBUL - Asrın Law Office appealed to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture regarding the situation of their client, PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, whom they had not heard from for 11 months, and called for "urgent action" to be taken.
Asrın Law Office's lawyers applied for "urgent action" to the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Torture on February 3 for their clients, PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, held in İmralı High Security F Type Prison.
In the application, the lawyers stated that they have not heard from their clients since March 25 and listed the applications they made during this process, demanding to be informed. In the application, the lawyers, who also included the reports prepared by the CPT as a result of its previous visits to Imrali, and the previous decisions of the UN Human Rights Committee on the situation. In the continuation of the application, the lawyers also emphasized the 7th and 10th articles of the UN Convention on Civil Rights, which regulate the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment were violated, and called for "urgent action" for the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to be taken.
COMPLAINT TO HSK, APPLICATION TO CPT
On December 24, lawyers filed a complaint with the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) against the judges and prosecutors who left their applications unanswered, on the grounds that they "unlawfully hindered the exercise of their rights by abusing their office". Recently, Asrın Law Office made an application to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and drew attention to the fact that they haven't been able to receive any news from Imrali Island since March 25. Defining what happened in Imrali as "torture and ill-treatment", the lawyers demanded an end to these practices and an immediate visit to the Imrali Prison.
