NEWS CENTER - Vice President of the Academy of Politics and Democratic Thought, Dr. Kamûran Berwarî said that the only solution to the problems and crises in Iraq is Democratic Confederalism.
Federal Kurdistan Region Political and Democratic Thought Academy Vice President Dr. Kamûran Berwarî spoke to Hawar News Agency (ANHA) about the foreign interventions in Iraq, the failure to form a new government, Turkey's attacks and the attitude of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
CRISIS IN IRAQ
"The Iraq crisis is an eternal crisis," said Berwari, adding, "The Iraqi state was founded on crisis and its problems. As long as it progresses with the same understanding, this crisis will continue for another century. The forces that founded the Iraqi state in 1921 are the owners of this crisis and do not allow peace and stability in Iraq. One of the reasons why the Iraqi unity was not established is the Iraqi forces themselves. They do not allow the mentality of the government to change"
'PROBLEMS CANNOT BE SOLVE BY ELECTION'
Stating that the Iraqi Parliamentary elections were the biggest of their crises, Berwarî said, “The elections and the elected representatives do not represent the Iraqi people. The percentage of people who voted in the last elections was very low. The problems and crisis in Iraq cannot be solved by elections." Speaking about the KDP and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (YNK) nominating different candidates, Berwarî said that dividing the seats by both parties was a strategic mistake. Pointing out that these conflicts between the parties affected the Federated Kurdistan Region in a negative way, Berwarî said: “It is illegal to give a party the regional presidency, parliamentary presidency and presidency. This is the right of the Kurds, not the parties. Kurdish political parties should compromise with other parties and send a candidate to Baghdad."
DISINTEGRATION IN IRAQ
Saying, "The crisis that emerged is the result of the meeting and agreement made in Jordan in June 2020," Berwarî pointed out that the seats and authorities were distributed before the elections, and therefore the election results were not legal. Stating that the purpose of the plans and meetings is to make Sadr the leader of Iraq, Berwarî stated that the Shiites in the South are also working in this direction. Pointing out that the political power that came to power in recent years also controlled the military areas, Berwarî said, "In this agreement, KDP, EL Sadr and Helbusî are working together to secure their power in Iraq."
Berwarî said, "However, this agreement will not bare fruit" and continued: "The KDP can only represent the Kurds, Al Sadr can only represent the Shiites. Mihamed Helbusi cannot even represent the Sunnis in Iraq. Even the three of them can not be a force. These deals will not be successful. There will be a great war in Iraq and Iraq will enter the process of disintegration."
DEMOCRATIC CONFEDERALISM
Stating that the construction of dams in Iraq is a big problem and this will cause even bigger problems, Bawerî said, “The situation in Iraq and Bashure Kurdistan will get worse. The Sadr movement has no projects for the Iraqi people. They deceived people with slogans. This crisis can only be resolved with Democratic Confederalism. Iraq belongs to all peoples and religions, not just Kurds and Arabs."
IRAN'S INFLUENCE
Drawing attention to the role of Iran in the Iraq crisis, Berwarî said that 80% of the economy, politics, military is under the control of Iran. Emphasizing that he does not believe that a government will be formed in Iraq without Iran's consent, Berwari stated that an agreement should be reached between Iran, Turkey, Israel, the USA and Europe before a government is formed in Iraq. Drawing attention to the role of the KDP and Turkey in deepening the crisis in Iraq, Berwarî said, “This creates a disaster. For this reason, the Turkish state does not recognize Kurdistan. Despite these policies, the KDP handed over its own land to Turkey.”
REACTION TO KDP
Referring to Nechirvan Barzani's meeting with Erdogan right after the attacks on Shengal, Makhmur and Derik, Berwarî said, "This meeting is no good for the Kurds. Erdogan dominates Bashure Kurdistan politically, militarily and economically. He does officially recognize the Bashur government. They did not use the words Kurd and Kurdistan. The regional government should understand this. Those who cooperate with the invaders will be occupied themselves."
