NEWS CENTER - Protesting the detentions of the journalists, journalism organisations said: "You can not silence journalism. These oppression and intimidation policies will not achieve results."

 

Journalism organisations protested the detention of the journalists carried out by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

 

Dicle Fırat Journalists Association:  Mezopotamya Agency and Jinnews reporters, members of our association, were detained in a raid on their home in the morning. MA Ankara office was raided as part of the operation. We condemn this operation aimed at silencing journalists. The free press will not be intimidated by these attacks.

 

DİSK Basın-İş: Many JINNEWS and Mesopotamia Agency employees, including our members, were detained during house raids early this morning. At least 7 journalists are in custody so far. We follow the process closesly. Journalism is not a crime, release our friends immediately!

 

Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform (MKGP): JINNEWS and MA reporters were detained with raids on their homes and offices this morning as part of an Ankara-based investigation. The policies of intimidation towards the press is useless. We the same thing before and we are saying it again. You cannot silence journalists. These oppression and intimidation policies will not achieve its purpose. We will not stop writing the truth. Stop harassing journalists. You will not make the journalists bow.

 

Journalists Union of Turkey: In the days when the censorship law came into effect, many journalists' houses were raided and detained at dawn. Our colleagues are not allowed to see their lawyers. You will not be able to criminalize journalism!

 

Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ): We demand an immediate end to arbitrary practices against the free press and the release of journalists.
