MADRID - Senator Gorka Elejabarrieta Diaz from Spain's Basque Country presented a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Spanish Senate for the arrested journalists.
Senator Gorka Elejabarrieta Diaz from Spain's Basque Country Esquerra Republicana-Euskal Herria Bildu Parliamentary Group submitted a written question to the Presidency of the Spanish Senate for the arrested journalists. Recalling that 11 journalists working for the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) and JINNEWS were detained in the simultaneous raid by the Turkish police on October 25 in Ankara, Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Mardin, Urfa and Van, and 9 of them were arrested, Diaz said that during the raid, journalists computers and other equipment were also confiscated.
Indicating that there was a serious attack on press freedom in Turkey, Diaz said that this operation was not a single one, and that it was the second large-scale operation against the Kurdish media in the last four months.
Expressing that the "Disinformation Law" approved by the Turkish parliament would destroy the guarantees for the exercise of the right to freedom of expression internationally, Diaz also drew attention to the reports published by Amnesty international.
Asking if the government had taken any action on the issue, Diaz asked what the government's position was on this issue.
