NEWS CENTER - Tsunami warnings were issued after 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude earthquakes, the epicenter of which was the Samandağ and Defne districts of Hatay.
At 20.05, the epicenter of which is the Samandağ and Defne districts of Hatay, earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.4 and 5.8 occurred consecutively. It was stated that the earthquake that occurred was felt in the cities of the region, especially in Diyarbakır, as well as in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
After the earthquake, which was followed by severe aftershocks, the people got through great panic. In many cities, people flocked to the streets, empty spaces and parks.
AFAD: STAY AWAY FROM THE COAST LINE
After the earthquake, AFAD warned: "Do not enter damaged buildings. Do not stay around risky buildings. Follow official sources for accurate information. After the earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 and 5.8 that occurred in Hatay, our relevant teams are on the alert and respond quickly to the incoming reports. Field scanning studies are continuing. It is important for our citizens to stay away from the coastline as a precaution against the risk of a rise in sea level up to 50 cm.
OKTAY: STAY AWAY FROM DAMAGED BUILDINGS
Making a statement on the earthquake in Hatay from his Twitter account, Vice President Fuat Oktay said: "The investigations regarding the earthquakes in Hatay are continuing. We ask our citizens in the region to stay away from damaged buildings and to sensitively follow the warnings of our teams."
TSUNAMI WARNING FROM EMSC
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) also issued a tsunami warning, calling for staying away from coastal areas and following the directives.
The developments after the earthquakes are as follows:
21.40 Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfi Savaş said: "After the earthquake, we received reports that buildings were demolished in rural neighborhoods of Antakya and people were left under the rubble. Some of the damaged buildings in the city also collapsed, one of the bridges in the city was also damaged."
HOSPITAL WAS EVACUATED in ANTAKYA
21.33: During the earthquake in Antakya, there was a great panic in Mustafa Kemal University Research and Application Hospital. While the patients in good condition were taken to the hospital garden with the guidance of the staff, the intensive and inpatient patients were removed from the building with the help of their companions and hospital staff. Patients treated in the intensive care unit were then transported to field hospitals by ambulances.
21.30- Samandag Mayor Refik Eryılmaz said: "The electricity was cut off in the district and many buildings were destroyed. We received notifications again and the teams started to work on detection." Hatay Governor Rahmi Doğan said: "We received some notifications due to the earthquake in the city, we are evaluating them, our scans are continuing."
21.13- Many buildings were destroyed in the Samandağ district of Hatay, the epicenter of the earthquake, and it was stated that a family was under the rubble.
20.44: After the earthquake, there was a great panic in Diyarbakır. People took to the streets in the city affected by the earthquake. In the city, where aftershocks continue, the people continue to wait in the streets.
