Journalist charged with reporting torture and rights violations

DİYARBAKIR- All rights violations, statements made and news about torture were considered crimes in the 383-page indictment prepared against the imprisoned JINNEWS Director Safiye Alağaş.
 
JINNEWS Director Safiye Alağaş, who was arrested on June 16, 2022 along with 15 journalists and press workers in the Diyarbakır-based investigation, filed an indictment on the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization". The indictment, consisting of 383 pages, was accepted by the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court. Alağaş will appear in court for the first time on June 25.

According to the news of JINNEWS; In the indictment, which started with the history of the PKK, it was claimed that the news agency "acted in line with and under the control of the organization's ideology". The news about the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the condition of ill prisoners, hunger strikes and rights violations were made the subject of accusations. The news of the statements made by non-governmental organizations and political parties was considered a crime. Actions and events against Öcalan, the march against the attacks against Afrin, the news titled “TAF's use of chemical weapons moved to the German Parliament”, public meetings, conferences by women, Newroz and Jineology news were also included in the indictment.
 
TORTURE NEWS STORIES WERE CONSIDERED AS CRIMES
 
The indictment included the possibility that "the news on the 'Word pages' found on computers in computer examinations may be a criminal element".  among the news made by Alağaş; The interview she received from the mothers of the prisoners who went on hunger strike, the pressures of the prisoners during the pandemic, reporting the letter of the ill prisoner Şivekar Ataş, the investigation of Berjin Demirkaya, who was murdered in the Cizîr basements of the Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, "Objection to the Decision of Non-Prosecution in the File of Murdered KJA Member Berjin Demirkaya" is in the file, were considered as crimes.
 
Another accusation report was the news of the raid on the house of Halise Aksoy, the mother of whom the body of her son Agit İpek, who lost her life in the conflict in Dersim, was delivered to her by cargo. The torture of Halise Aksoy was made the subject of accusation in the news.
