ISTANBUL - Free Press journalists who were imprisoned this year were deemed worthy of the 21st Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Awards.
The “21. Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Awards” found their owners. Journalist-writer Pakrat Estukyan, journalist-writer Tuğrul Eryılmaz and imprisoned Free Press journalists were deemed worthy of the 21st “Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Awards”.
The “Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought and Expression Awards” have been given by the İHD Istanbul Branch since 2003, after the death of human rights defender Ayşenur Zarakolu.
The award ceremony will be held today at 18.30 at the İHD Istanbul Branch Emil Galip Sandalcı Meeting Hall. İHD called for participation in the award ceremony.
WHO IS AYSENUR ZARAKOLU?
Ayşenur Zarakolu, a human rights defender and owner of Belge Publishing, died on January 28, 2002 due to cancer. Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Expression awards were started in 2002 in memory of Ayşenur Zarakolu, one of the founders and executives of İHD, who fought for freedom of thought and expression until her death in her own professional field and contributed to the expansion of freedom of thought in Turkey.
