TEKİRDAĞ - Hilmi Karaoğlan, who was diagnosed with cerebral vascular occlusion, is not given vital medicines even though it has been a month since his arrest.
The health condition of Hilmi Karaoğlan, one of the 24 people who was detained during the operation on May 23 and arrested on charges of "being a member of a terrorist organization", in the investigation against the Tekirdağ-based Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), is deteriorating. It was learned that 68-year-old Karaoğlan, who was put in Tekirdağ Type T Prison, had serious diseases such as 80 percent cerebrovascular occlusion, hardening of the lungs, kidney disease, and decay in organs.
THE ILL PRISONER IS CHECKED IN EVERY 15 DAYS
Stating that his father has been in politics for many years, but he has not been able to carry out active politics for 5-6 years due to his illnesses, Karaoğlan's son, Serkan Karaoğlan said: "My father had bypass surgery and angiography many times. He spends 16-17 hours in bed, sluggishly, 24 hours a day. It takes air 7-8 hours a day. How many times have we been hospitalized? Especially before entering the prison, the doctor told him to come for a check-up every 15 days. Previously, he was going for checkups every 3 months. Now they have reduced it to 15 days. My father is so seriously ill. He is in need of care and does not have the strength to get up and make a meal.”
VITAL MEDICINE IS NOT GIVEN
Expressing that they do not know about his father's conditions in prison and whether he was cared for, Karaoğlan said: "Who will intervene if something suddenly happens to my father? He has a check-up here every 15 days. No one can meet these conditions in prison. The blood vessels to the brain are closed. Can't hold a cup of tea. He uses 30 kinds of drugs. The prison has not delivered a very important medicine for 2 weeks. He wrote a petition saying, 'This drug is of vital importance.' They haven't been able to deliver the medicine to him, but he has 'no' medicine for two weeks, they don't give the medicine to him."
