DİYARBAKIR- The managers of Barikat and Purple Barikat, which started the "Be a Barricade Against Drugs" campaign against the increasing drug and prostitution in Amed, asked all non-governmental organizations to support them.
Amedspor supporter group Barikat and Mor Barikat have called “Be a Barricade Against Drugs!” against the increasing drug use and prostitution in Amed(Diyarbakır) and its surroundings and launched the campaign. Barikat and Mor Barikat are planning to hold a symposium in the coming days by meeting with non-governmental organizations. Barikat and Purple Barikat managers called on the public and non-governmental organizations to support them in their work.
'THE AVERAGE AGE OF DRUG DECREASED'
Underlining that the average age of drug use in Amed has also decreased and it can be easily obtained, Barikat group manager İbrahim Aygürt said: "We are planning to prevent the increasing cases. It was a matter of curiosity for us where these substances were obtained from and how they were sold. Practically, we first launched the 'Be a Barricade Against Drugs' campaign. We carried out activities on the streets, we made press statements. But day by day the age limit has dropped a lot. This being the case, we worry about the future of our youth and our children. That's why we will support and continue the studies and campaigns on this issue as much as we can.”
‘IS THE PRIVATE WAR AGAINST THE KURDISH GEOGRAPHY?’
Stating that drugs and prostitution are "system tools" that do not identify with the society, Barikat said: "Driving the youth to a life of corruption, lowering their level of consciousness, losing their ideological thought, and not being a useful individual to the society due to low level of consciousness in their future life are reasons for concern for us. Today, in any part of the city, village or district, apart from these disgraceful acts, whatever you do, you will be judged. But today, those who pioneered and provided this business; Those who bring these substances into cities, villages and schools are walking around with ease. We see it as completely systemic. It is the state system responsible for everything that may occur in this geography and hinder the youth. Why is this not taken care of? Is it the concept of a special war against Kurdish geography? Is this a sanction against us?”
'THE AIM IS TO ENSLAVE WOMEN'
Pointing out that prostitution cases have increased in many cities of Kurdistan, especially Amed, in recent years, Mor Barikat group manager Kader Türkyılmaz said: "The increasing cases pose a danger to women's identity. Prostitution has the characteristics of 'enslaving women' and 'attacking the female body'. These attacks are carried out by front companies under the name of beauty centres. It is done to alienate women from their own identity, self and essence, to enslave women. Women need to put a strong will against these prostitution cases. We need to seriously fight against prostitution cases."
'WE WILL STRUGGLE AGAINST THREATENS IN THE SOCIETY '
Calling on women's institutions and NGOs to take responsibility for the fight against prostitution, Türkyılmaz said: "As Purple Barikat, we say that we stand by our female friends who have been exposed to these attacks, and we state that we stand by them in every area they need. We plan to come together with women's institutions, find a definitive solution together and reduce it to a minimum. Our institutions, especially us women, should be in solidarity with the non-governmental organizations in the city and seminars and conferences should be organized against this problem that seriously threatens the society. We will struggle against threats in society. We think it will be beneficial to come together with women who have been subjected to these attacks, listen to their problems and find solutions."
