WAN - Lawyer, who met with the prisoners who were subjected to hogtie torture in Patnos Type L Prison. Dersim Erişen stated that torture practices are not independent of isolation and called for sensitivity from political parties and legal organizations.
Mizgin Kayitbey, Lale Kabişen and Nazlıcan Barışer, who are detained in Patnos Type L Closed Prison, objected to the counting by male guards on August 31. Thereupon, 40 guards raided the ward and tortured the prisoners. The prisoners, who were attacked by the guards, were tied with "hogties" and held in the holding room for 4 hours. Prisoners who were tortured were asked by the prison administration, "Are you the one who is transferring the problems here to the outside?" If you transfer the problems to the outside, your situation will be like this." Lawyer Dersim Erişen, a member of the Wan Bar Association Prison Commission, met with the prisoner Lale Kabişen, who was beaten in the prison, explained the attack on the prisoners and called for public awareness.
TORTURED WITH A HOGTIE FOR HOURS
Stating that the events took place when the detained women objected to the male guards coming to the evening count on August 31, Erişen said: “After the objection of the female prisoners, torture and beating took place a day later. Normally, male gendarmes attend the female prison wards in monthly searches. It is not possible for male guards to enter women's wards for counting or any other reason. According to the allegations made to us, female prisoners are tied with pig ties and torture continues for hours. "After a week of meeting, the female prisoners had bruises and crusted wounds on their hands and arms."
'TORTURE IS NOT INDEPENDENT FROM ISOLATION'
Stating that the torture experienced in prisons is not independent of the isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Erişen said: “One reason for the problems experienced is the spread of the isolation system in prisons. The prison administration takes strength from this process and carries out its attacks without fear. The reaction of political parties and rights institutions is also weak. Political parties that said 'We will destroy the doors of isolation with a bang' before the elections need to make efforts and efforts that correspond to this discourse and claim."
