KOCAELİ - Nesrin Akgül, who was released last year, was arrested again because the sentence given against her in another file was approved.
Nesrin Akgül, who was released from Kandıra No. 1 Type F Closed Prison in February 2022, was detained in Kocaeli this morning due to the approval of the sentence given against her in another file. After the decision was read to her face by the court to which she was referred, Akgül was sent to Gebze Women's Closed Prison.
WHO IS NESRİN AKGÜL?
Nesrin Akgül was detained and arrested in Wan in 2008. Akgül, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the case in which she was tried, was sent to Amed, Şakran and Bakırköy prisons respectively. Akgül, who was lastly transferred to Kandıra No. 1 Type F Closed Prison, suffered indefinite and non rotate hunger, which was initiated by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven on November 8, 2018, with the demand for the lifting of the İmralı isolation, while she was arrested in Bakırköy Type L Women's Closed Prison. She joined the strike action on January 16, 2019 and turned her action into a death fast on April 30. The protests ended on May 26 after PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan met with his lawyers.
