ÎDIR - Bekir Yollu, an ill prisoner of 30 years in Kırşehir Prison, was prevented from being released for the second time on the grounds that he was not in “good behavior” despite completing his sentence.
Hundreds of political prisoners have been prevented from being released since the Prison Administration and Monitoring Board (İGK) came into effect in 2021. Bekir Yollu, an ill prisoner in Kırşehir High Security Prison, who was prevented from being released on the grounds that he was not in “good behavior” despite completing his 30-year sentence.
Detained in 1993, Yollu was sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) for “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”. After completing his sentence in December 2023, the Prison Administration and Observation Board decided that Yollu was not in “good behavior” on the grounds that he had participated in hunger strikes, disciplinary penalties and had not participated in “rehabilitation programs”. The board postponed Yollu's release twice for 6 months each.
Yollu, who was exiled to cities far away from his family against his will during his imprisonment, has difficulty walking due to a wrong injection in his knee about 6 months ago. Yollu also suffers from stomach and kidney diseases.
FAMILY HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO SEE HIM FOR 10 YEARS
Yollu's family, on the other hand, has not been able to visit Yollu for 10 years due to economic difficulties as he is in a distant city. The family called on everyone to take care of sick prisoners and prisoners whose execution has been postponed.
