ISTANBUL - Eleven people who went to the Amedspor-Sakaryaspor match wearing masks of Mahmut Yıldırım, code-named “Yeşil”, were detained, while Sakaryaspor President Gökhan İn and the club's board resigned and decided to hold an extraordinary congress.
Amedspor faced Sakaryaspor at Istanbul Olympic Stadium last week. In the images shared by Sakaryaspor fans on virtual media, it was revealed that a group of Sakaryaspor fans made masks from the photograph of Mahmut Yıldırım, a Gendarmerie Intelligence Unit (JİTEM) member codenamed “Yeşil”, known for unsolved murders in the 1990s, and went to the match with these masks.
11 PEOPLE DETAINED
After the video sparked reactions, Sakarya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation. Upon the instruction of the Prosecutor's Office, security units detained 11 people wearing “Yeşil” masks in raids on their homes.
CLUB PRESIDENT RESIGNS
On the other hand, after the Amedspor-Sakaryaspor match, Sakaryaspor Club President Gökhan İn announced that he resigned from his position he has been holding for about 2 months.
