30 human rights organizations made a statement on March 8 International Women's Day. According to Fırat News Agency (ANF) the statement reads: "Attacks on women's rights continue. Women are targeted with the implementation of the death penalty and women are punished in a way that is far from human rights standarts. The international community must take action to stop the death sentences and unite for the cancellation of the sentences of Warishah Muradi, Pakshan Azizi and Sharifa Mohammadi."

 

PAKSHAN AZIZI

 

Kurdish journalist and activist Pakshan Azizi was detained in Tehran on 4 August 2023. She was arrested on 11 November 2023 on charges of "armed action against the Iranian government". The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Pakshan Azizi to death on 23 July 2024. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Judicial Council of Iran on 8 January 2025 

 

WARISHAH MURADI

 

Warishah Muradi was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards near the city of Sineh on 1 August 2023. The Iranian judiciary sentenced Warishah Muradi to death in sessions on 16 June and 4 July 2024. Warishah Muradi's lawyers stated that the judicial process was fast-tracked and full of irregularities. 

 

SHARIF MOHHAMMADI

 

Women's rights defender and activist Sharifa Mohammadi, 45, was born in Urmai and resided in Rasht. Sharifa Mohammadi was detained in 2023 on charges of "propaganda against the state". On 4 July 2024, she was sentenced to death by the Itanian Revolutionary Court. Following appeals, the death sentence was overturned on 12 October 2024. However, on 13 February 2025, the 2nd Chamber of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht re-sentenced Sharifa Mohammadi to death.
