ISTANBUL - An indicment has been prepared against arrested Istanbul Bar Association Executive Board Member Fırat Epözdemir, demanding a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
The investigation against Istanbul Bar Association Executive Board Member Fırat Epözdemir, who was detained and arrested at Istanbul Airport on 23 January on his return from abroad, has been completed. Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation against Epözdemir on the allegations of "terrorist organization membership" and "terrorist organization propaganda" and prepared an indictment against Epözdemir. The indictment demands jail sentences ranging from 7 years and 6 months to 15 years for Epözdemir on the allegation of "terrorist organization membership"
The indictment against Epözdemir, who has been arrested for about 3 months, reads: "The information obtained about the suspect and turned into a research report, it has been determined that the suspect was the Head of Bağcılar within the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK), which was established after the suspect's statements that an alliance could be established with leftist political groups in line with the instructions of Abdullah Öcalan, aiming to channel the political power and mass potential of leftist organisations and marginal groups in western provinces to the organisation."
Istanbul 27th High Criminal Court, to which the indictment was submitted, will decide whether to accept or return the indictment after the necessary examinations.
