NEWS CENTER - Berkin Elvan's mother and father were sentenced to prison for "insulting the President".
Gülsüm Elvan and Sami Elvan, parents of Berkin Elvan, who was shot dead with a tear gas canister fired by the police during the Gezi resistance in Istanbul in 2013, were sentenced in the lawsuit filed against them due to "insulting the President". Father Sami Elvan said, "My life has changed in 11 years, I am still longing for my child. I have no child, I send the verdict to your conscience" and left the courtroom.
Journalist Fatoş Erdoğan reported that Sami Elvan said "I'm outside, I'm waiting to see if you will send the police or handcuff me" as he left the courtroom.
