AMED – The Democratic Unity Initiative will hold conferences in Bazîd (Doğubayazıt) and Mêrdîn (Mardin) to discuss Kurdish national unity and the ongoing peace process in Turkey, member Orhan Ayaz announced.

On 26 July, a conference titled “The Importance of Kurdish National Unity” will take place in Bazîd, featuring speakers including Gülcan Kaçmaz Sayyiğit, Mehmet Kamaç, Leyla Zana, İkbal Durre, Cemile Turhallı, Gültan Kışanak, Faik Bulut, and Hasan Özgüneş. The final declaration will be read the following day at the Ehmedî Xanê Mausoleum. Another conference will be organized in Mêrdîn, with details to be announced soon.

The events will address intra-Kurdish unity, developments in the Middle East, and strategies for Kurdish responses.

‘UNITY IS CRUCIAL’

Orhan Ayaz said over a thousand participants are expected, highlighting the significance of unity for Kurds: “The goal of the conference is Kurdish unity and alliance. There is a new peace-building process, and democratic politics must be given room to grow. Following Abdullah Öcalan’s video message, the dissolution decision, and the symbolic burning of weapons, all eyes are now on steps to be taken by the state.”

Ayaz noted that all sectors of society have been invited to ensure active participation rather than passive observation: “Öcalan and the PKK have fulfilled their responsibilities and are pursuing peace seriously. The state must show the same seriousness, unlike its approach in 2013. This conference is meant to include everyone in the process.”

CALL FOR A NATIONAL CONGRESS

Representatives from political parties across Bakur (North Kurdistan-Turkey), Başûr (South Kurdistan-Iraq), Rojava (East Kurdistan-Syria), and Rojhilat (West Kurdsitan-Iran) are expected to attend. “We will discuss the urgent need to convene a national congress,” Ayaz said, emphasizing that this effort should be seen as above party politics: “Kurdish political parties must treat this as a supra-party issue and work to convince their constituencies. We are committed to doing our part, including seeking a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan to strengthen Kurdish unity.”
