İZMİR - HDP and HDK Women's Council members protested the Kobané Case under police blockade.
Peoples 'Democratic Congress (HDK) and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Izmir women's councils wanted to make a statement at the entrance of Kemeraltı Bazaar in Konak regarding the Kobanê Case in Ankara. The police, who blockaded the place where the women was going to make a press release, stopped the women in front of the Social Security Institution (SGK).
POLICE ERASED THE FOOTAGE
Preventing the women from entering the area, police blockaded the women. Stating that the women were 'praising terror and terrorists', police blocked the journalists from doing their jobs and erased the footage.
THE REACTION OF THE WOMEN
There was a long argument between the police and the women. HDP İzmir Provincial Co-Chair Besriye Tekgür said, "The wind will turn, do know that. You can't stop us from making a press statement. How is making a press statement a crime?"
Police said the women could make a statement in the HDP building due to pandemic measures. Co-Chair Tekgür said: You fine people for being indoors during pandemic. When it comes to us, you say go do your thing indoors. How is this make sense? It is forbidden to make a press statement outdoors and it is free indoors?"
Reacting to the police blockade, a woman said: "Isn't this worse? Hundreds of police are blockading a handful of women. Are you that desperate?"
Tekgür said: "They say we are praising criminals. You are creating crimes. Everyone's a terrorist in this country except you. You are preventing our right to engage in politics. You are trying to silence us. We condemn this. The wind will turn. You are afraid of the women and you are afraid of the people."
Women then left the scene with slogans.
