İSTANBUL - The colleagues of our reporter Mehmet Aslan who was arrested for his activities as a journalist, will launch a twitter storm tonight with the hashtag “#MehmetAslanGazetecidir”.
Our reporter Mehmet Aslan whom the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office started an investigation against, on charges of 'being a member of an illegal organization' and 'making news that provokes the masses', has been held in Antalya Type L Closed Prison since January 9. The first hearing of Aslan who was accused of the news he wrote and his conversations with his sources will be held at İstanbul 24th High Criminal Court on May 26, at 10.00. A twitter storm campaign is organized by his colleagues for the release of Aslan.
'A MORE STRONGER SOUND'
The call for the Twitter storm is as follows: Mesopotamia Agency reporter Mehmet Aslan, who has been investigated by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the allegation of "being a member of a terrorist organization" and "making news that provokes / agitates the masses", has been held in Antalya L Type Closed Prison since January 9. The first hearing of the trial of Aslan will be held on May 26 at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court. The most important need today is to raise our voice for the journalists who are imprisoned solely for their professional activities. Democracy, human rights and freedoms expand as the press is free. We call on all professional and non-governmental organizations, especially journalists, to be in solidarity with our colleague who does not take a step back in bringing the facts to the public despite all the pressures of the government. We call on everyone to support the hashtag campaign that we will launch on May 25 at 21:00 for the freedom of our colleague Aslan, with the title "#MehmetAslanGazetecidir".
