Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 occurred in the Marmara Sea, off the coast of Istanbul Silivri at 12.49 pm local time.
AFAD made the following warnings on its virtual media account after the earthquake:
* Do not enter damaged buildings.
* Do not be around risky buildings.
* Make your communications via short message service (SMS) and internet-based messaging software."
Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Gorur also made a statement on his virtual media account and said: "...The earthquake is on the Kumburgaz fault zone. This fault is a locked fault, accumulating energy. It makes small earthquakes from time to time. The location is meaningful, we need to be careful. Kumburgaz Fault is being loaded."
