ISTANBUL – DEM Party's Saruhan Oluç said that everyone who visited Sırrı Süreyya Önder mentioned his endeavour for peace and stated that this situation reveals that different circles of the society want peace and solution.

The treatment of Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Parliamentary Deputy Chair and member of the İmralı Delegation Sırrı Süreyya Önder continues at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Şişli for the 15th day. DEM Party MP Saruhan Oluç, who closely follows the process and has been at the hospital since Önder's illness, talked about Önder's struggle for peace.

Oluç said that Önder made great efforts by taking an active role both in the "dialogue" process between 2013 and 2015 and in the new process. Oluç said, "He is an experienced and knowledgeable friend who knows the processes well and can manage them well."

Pointing to the visits from different segments, Oluç said that those who could not come sent messages. Oluç stated that the fact that even people with distant ideas in politics came together for Önder was a result of Önder's efforts for peace. Stating that he had met Önder during election campaigns in 2011, Oluç said that Önder had always been a good colleague and had a democratic understanding in his 14 years of work.

'SOCIETY WANTS PEACE'

Pointing out that many people from different walks of life respect Önder for his struggle for peace, Oluç noted that Önder fought for peace and solution. Oluç said, "The fact that he went to İmralı Island and had a meeting with Mr Öcalan, that he came here and took steps as a result of that meeting, that he met with political circles... Everyone who came, even from very different circles, definitely mentioned his efforts for a solution. This situation made us think once again: In fact, many different circles of this society want peace and a solution. They want steps to be taken in this regard. And perhaps in such a way it becomes more feasible."

'ONE OF THE NAMES THAT DESERVE TO SEE PEACE'

Expressing that they hope Önder will regain his health as soon as possible and continue his struggle, Oluç said that Önder is one of the people who deserve to see peace the most. Oluç added, "I hope we can bring his work on peace and solution to a conclusion as soon as possible. It would be the best if he also sees this situation. This is one of the main reasons for our hopeful wait."
